On 23rd July 2014 we welcomed two very capable  ARH Funding Partner PhD Scholars to our weekly meeting.

Mareike Dahmer-Heath and Chiho Mauranushi, both supported by the Basil Shaw-ARH PHD Bursary, provided comprehensive presentations about their current skin cancer research.

Mareike is doing research at the Cell Cycle Laboratory at the UQ’s Diamantina Translational Research Institute, focusing on identifying the normal DNA repair response to UV light that is defective in Melanoma.

Chiho, from Japan and currently based at the School of Population Health at the UQ, explained her research into which drugs increase and decrease the risk of skin cancers, with a view to assisting in the development of better risk protection tools.
