PNG Clean Water Projects

Clean water, sanitation, and hygiene education are basic necessities for a healthy environment and a productive life.
When people have access to clean water and sanitation, waterborne diseases decrease, children stay healthier and attend school more regularly, and mothers can spend less time carrying water and more time helping their families.

Spearheaded by Wes Nichols from our club, and Ian Cameron of the Mitchelton Rotary Club, we have been able to mobilize resources, form local partnerships, and invest in infrastructure and training that is creating long-term change in PNG.

The projects involved the construction of water capture structures, and the installation of pipelines, water tanks and water outlets.

All projects have actively involved the local residents in key villages in the PNG Highlands and have successfully managed water from streams in the higher regions to be piped to their villages and provide much needed clean water and better sanitation for those communities.

Our members have also assisted the local residents to repair and maintain their water supplies, so they are self-sufficient.
These clean water projects have brought about co-operation between neighbouring villages and had an amazing impact on eradicating diseases and sickness within participating communities.

Financing the projects has been possible through the involvement of Australian and International Rotary Clubs, and Rotary International.
